Why We Built Oviflow

Dan

We never planned to build an app. We were just trying to have a baby.

The spreadsheet phase

When we started IVF, we did what most couples do: we opened a spreadsheet. One tab for medications - names, dosages, injection times, which side of the belly. Another tab for appointments. Another for lab results. Another for costs.

By cycle three, the spreadsheet had more tabs than we could keep track of. And it still couldn’t tell us what we actually needed to know: where are we in this cycle, and what happens next?

Five apps instead of one

We tried every app out there. A period tracker that didn’t understand IVF protocols. A medication reminder that couldn’t handle “take 225 IU of Gonal-F subcutaneously at 8pm, rotate injection sites.” A calendar app for appointments. A notes app for journaling the hard days. A messaging app to keep each other updated.

Five apps. None of them talked to each other. None of them were built for what we were actually going through.

The 2am searches

If you’ve been through IVF, you know the late-night searches. “Is bloating normal on stim day 5?” “What should E2 levels be before trigger?” “How many follicles is a good number?”

We’d lie in bed, scrolling through forum posts from years ago, trying to piece together whether what we were experiencing was normal. There was no single place that could show us our own data in context and help us understand our journey.

The moment we decided to build

It was cycle five. My wife was managing 6 daily medications, each with different timing, dosages, and injection sites. I was trying to keep track of appointments and lab results while also being the emotional support partner.

One morning at 5am, my wife wasn’t sure if she’d drawn up the right dose of Menopur. The medication schedule was in a spreadsheet on her laptop downstairs. The injection instructions were in a PDF from the clinic. The timer for the next dose was on her phone.

We looked at each other and said: “There has to be a better way.”

What we’re building

Oviflow is the app we wish we’d had from cycle one. Everything in one place:

  • Medication tracking that actually understands IVF protocols - not a generic pill reminder
  • A cycle timeline that always shows you where you are and what’s next
  • Partner sync so both of you are always on the same page
  • Lab tracking with trends across your entire cycle
  • Emotional check-ins because this journey is as much about your mental health as your physical health

Built with lived experience

We’re not building this from a product spec. We’re building it from 6 cycles, 5 years, and more injection needles than we can count.

Every feature comes from a real moment in our journey. Every screen is designed for the 5am version of you - tired, anxious, and just needing to know what to do next.

What’s next

We’re in active development right now. If you’re going through IVF or planning to start, we’d love to have you join our waitlist. Not just to be first in line - but because your experience and feedback will help us build something that truly works for this community.

We’re building Oviflow for us. And for every couple going through the same thing.
